2026 DMITRY SHISHKIN Piano Recital
2026 DMITRY SHISHKIN Piano Recital

Pianist Dmitry Shishkin is renowned for a contemplative and poetic style that reveals profound emotional tension within rigorous structures. Through his nuanced and imaginative interpretation, this concert outlines a sophisticated dialogue between Romanticism and 20th-century music.

At the heart of the program lies the poetic world of Franz Schubert: Gretchen am Spinnrade and Auf dem Wasser zu singen, transcribed by Liszt, transform textual emotion into pure sound, where whirling rhythms and flowing melodies become intimate soliloquies. Sergei Prokofiev’s 10 Pieces from Romeo and Juliet masterfully hide dramatic intensity within cool, calculated structures, tracing the sharp contrasts of fate. Schubert’s Impromptus, Op. 90 (Nos. 2, 3, and 4), showcase exquisite emotional layers through a lens of refined spontaneity, while the concert suite of The Nutcracker brings the evening to a virtuosic and brilliant close. Shishkin invites the audience to find the intersection of thought and feeling in a space between lyricism and drama.

About the Artist: Dmitry Shishkin First Prize winner of the Geneva International Music Competition and Silver Medalist of the Tchaikovsky International Competition, Russian pianist Dmitry Shishkin is hailed as one of the most poetic and profound artists of his generation. A child prodigy born in Chelyabinsk, Siberia, he gave his first recital at age three and performed with an orchestra by age six. He later refined his artistry at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Eliso Virsaladze and continued his studies in Italy and Germany.

His international accolades include top prizes at the Busoni, Rio de Janeiro, Chopin, and Queen Elisabeth competitions, as well as First Prize at the "Top of the World" International Piano Competition. Gramophone magazine praised him, noting: "Even more than his pristine articulation, it is his subtle and imaginative interpretation that commands attention." Pianist Boris Bloch described his playing as "ethereal yet possessed of immense tension and masterly color control." Now residing in Switzerland, Shishkin continues to captivate global audiences with his unique "Shishkin-esque" style—a sincere and delicate musical language where poetry and power coexist.
